In 2020 I was inducted into the Ohio Chapter of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals (NADN). In Columbus, Ohio only three other mediators are members of NADN. One of them nominated  me and another seconded my nomination into NADN.  

Additional honors I have received as a trial lawyer  include: 

          (a) inducted into the International Association of Defense Counsel (1984);

          (b) certified in Civil Trial Advocacy by the National Board of Trial Advocacy (1997);

          (c) inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers (2000); State Committee (Ohio) 2009-2022; Vice Chair, State Committee, 2015-2017; Chair, State Committee, 2017-2019

          (d) inducted as an Associate of the American Board of Trial Advocates, 1996; Advocate, 2021; Ohio Chapter, President (2022).

In late 2019 I transitioned to full-time private mediator and arbitrator after trying more than 70 as a defense and plaintiff lawyer from 1977-2015. I was primarily a defense lawyer from 1977-1994 and a plaintiff lawyer from 1994-2019. 

I have mediated hundreds of cases with lawyers and party decision makers from more than 15 Ohio cities and towns with lawyers and party decision makers from more than 20 states. Since Pandemic inception in March 2020 the modalities in which I have mediated cases include (a) Zoom; (b) a combination of Zoom and in person; or (c) in person.

Educational Background

  • In 1974 I graduated from Duke University, Cum Laude with Distinction in Psychology. My majors were Psychology and Religion. I wrote an honors thesis entitled, "Children's Conceptions of Mental Illness: A Developmental Study" based on a two-year independent study of 1st, 4th and 7th grade students in the Durham, North Carolina public school system. In 1977 I graduated from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law where I received the highest grade in "Law and Psychiatry" based on a paper I wrote on the liability of psychiatrists for death caused to third parties by their patients whom they negligently released from mental health care facilities.
