In 2019, Craig was re-elected as a Senior Director on the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel Board of Directors at the FDCC Annual Meeting.  Craig was also appointed to the FDCC Executive Committee and is the Convention Chair for the FDCC 2020 Winter Meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona in March.   He also received the 2019 President’s Award for Extraordinary Service to the FDCC through his work as Editor-in-Chief of the Federation’s Claims Professional Desk Reference, its compendium of 51 state and territorial jurisdictions’ laws and information relevant to the work of Insurance Claims Adjusters throughout the United States.

In 2015, the FDCC awarded Craig its annual FDCC CONNECT award in recognition of his work in advancing the FDCC’s referral network.

Since 1993, a succession of U.S. district court judges has appointed Craig to the Northern Ohio district Panel of ADR Neutrals. He is an in-demand speaker on topics related to trial advocacy; several of his lectures and presentations appear here.

Craig is an adjunct professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Law and a winner of the university’s Newton D. Baker Distinguished Service Award.

Marvinney has also undertaken cross border litigations involving Ontario and Quebec, as well as international matters involving activity in Japan, Finland, Chile, the UK, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Canada.  A federal mediator in the N.D. Ohio for 23 years, Marvinney is also an Adjunct Professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Law and is a member of the Board of Directors of The Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel.  A frequent speaker in numerous legal topics in venues across North America, Marvinney is active in his community, having presided over the Lawyers Guild of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland and the Case Western Reserve University Undergraduate Alumni Association, chairing his local planning commission and the development of his city's Master Plan.  With his four daughters now having graduated college, Marvinney and his wife take full advantage of outdoor activities in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, on Lake Erie and surrounding park resources.

Verdicts/Settlements

  • Coordinating Ohio Counsel for pharmaceutical and medical device concerns regarding product liability and Multi-District Litigation issues including among others, Phenyl-Propanolamine (PPA), Psyllium, Nicorette, Ephedra, Inferior Vena Cava Filters, Cardiac Pacemakers, Cardiac Defibrillators, Spinal Stimulators and Vaginal Mesh Implants. Successfully defended a significant Ohio-based patent law firm from patent/intellectual property legal malpractice, fraud and misrepresentation claims across Ohio in federal and state courts. Drove South-Asian/Canadian web-based sales concern out of business and into bankruptcy due to its ongoing export via the internet to the United States of patent, copyright and trademark infringing sports equipment manufactured in China. Achieved cessation of illegal competition via trademark and patent infringement issues arising from use of Google search engine and word placement algorithms in industrial chemicals matter. Won dismissals of numerous pharmaceutical claims from Florida based on the Doctrine of Forum Non Conveniens. Forced resolution of a $54 Million extracontractual insurance liability matter against major Ohio Commercial Claims Insurer at a fraction of the claim. Appraiser in a multi-million dollar mining business interruption claim involving tax treatment coverage and mine depletion allowances. Performed due diligence for an acquisition merger target, a significant foreign law firm, involving a major United States based law firm. National Coordinating Counsel, through trial, of high exposure commercial claims involving scores of separate lawsuits including Colorado state class action arising from mass sales of construction components, leading to creation of a $300 Million settlement fund. Chief Trial and Coordinating Counsel successfully defending $163 Million in excess insurance claims of arising from structural damage in over 20,000 prefabricated apartment modules in 1,500 buildings throughout Florida. Coordinating Ohio Counsel for agricultural product producer in class action, insurance fund and attorney general actions. Representing American and British interests, secured and collected a multi-million dollar U.S. judgment contribution against a Finnish insurer doing business in Canada. Lead Trial Counsel prevailing in defending a pivotal wrongful death claim against then nascent $1 Billion pharmaceutical product line. Trial Team in Chilean Tire Industry commercial action arising out of the re-privatization of the industry by the Chilean government. Defense Team in seminal mass-tort litigation actions including those arising from the MGM Grand Hotel, the Las Vegas Hilton and the Beverly Hills Supper Club Fires.
