A partner at Lowe Trial Lawyers in Cleveland, Ohio, Kyle Melling brings deep experience in personal injury and civil rights law. Since joining in 2018, he has earned a reputation for tenacity in automotive product liability, auto accidents, trucking collisions, wrongful death and product liability matters. Elevated to partner in April 2023, he consistently pursues justice for injured plaintiffs through strategic advocacy and meticulous preparation.
Before joining Lowe Trial Lawyers, Mr. Melling honed his trial skills defending public and private institutions in civil rights, tort and labor and employment disputes. This defense-side experience provides a rare perspective: he can anticipate opposing counsel’s arguments, identify potential defenses and proactively craft litigation strategies that maximize leverage for his clients. Whether negotiating settlements or presenting complex evidence to a jury, his nuanced understanding of both sides of the courtroom has become a hallmark of his advocacy.
Mr. Melling earned his Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from Miami University in Ohio. He then pursued his Juris Doctor at Cleveland State University College of Law. During law school, he distinguished himself as a member of the moot court team and was elected president of the Student Bar Association. These leadership roles fostered his courtroom poise, oral advocacy and collaborative spirit, shaping the lawyer he is today.
Admitted to practice in Ohio since 2013, Mr. Melling is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association. He serves on the boards of the Ohio Association for Justice and the Cleveland Academy of Trial Attorneys. Passionate about giving back, he has held officer positions on the Rainbow Babies and Children’s Foundation Associate Board, including secretary, vice president, president and trustee chair. Outside the courtroom, he remains committed to his community and advancing the cause of justice.

Verdicts / Settlements (Case Results)
- Along with Partner Ryan Fisher, Kle Melling settled a lawsuit for $3.25 million against Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) on behalf of eight clients alleging sexual abuse by former CMSD dance instructor Terence Greene and civil rights violations by the school district. We alleged Title IX violations and negligence on the part of CMSD when it failed to investigate previous sex abuse allegations against Greene. The victims were enrolled in the Cleveland School of the Arts between 2008 and 2013. The case also broke new ground for the interpretation of the statute of limitations in similar Title IX cases. Historically, claims brought under Title IX in Ohio have been subject to the two-year personal injury statute of limitations. In April, for the first time, the US District Court for the Northern District of Ohio issued a ruling applying a 12-year statute of limitations to claims brought under Title IX and arising out of childhood sexual abuse, allowing our clients to proceed with their suit. The Ohio Legislature was clear that a 12-year statute of limitations should apply for all claims arising out of any childhood sexual assault and this Court agreed with us and extended this 12-year statute of limitations to our clients Title IX cases, which ultimately resulted in this settlement for our clients. Hopefully, this will pave the way for future claims of victims of childhood sexual assault who seek to recover under Federal Law. We hope this encourages other victims who may have been turned down in the past to come forward and allow their cases to be re-evaluated in light of this recent development., 2021
- Settlement in excess of policy limits on disputed liability dog bite claim that included an insurance coverage issue. Successfully litigated in two separate suits a claim on behalf of an Amazon delivery driver who was viciously attacked by an unrestrained dog. Insurance carrier denied coverage on the basis of the breed of the dog, and owner of the dog hired outside counsel to dispute liability. Was able to obtain a settlement in excess of the insurance carrier's underlying coverage, asserting both the liability claims, but also a bad faith denial of coverage, as Plaintiff was named as a party in the separately filed declaratory action., 2023
