Michael O'Shea

The principal attorney at the Lipson O’Shea Legal Group, Michael O’Shea focuses his practice primarily on criminal defense cases, with a particular emphasis on charges relating to operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs. His firm is located in Cleveland, Ohio, and he provides representation to clients in the greater metropolitan area and throughout the northeastern portion of the state. Mr. O’Shea has been admitted to practice in Ohio since 1987.

Mr. O’Shea majored in English at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1984. Remaining in the state for his legal education, he enrolled at The University of Toledo College of Law, and in 1987, he was awarded his Juris Doctor. After law school, Mr. O’Shea was a deputy prosecutor with the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office until entering private practice in 1992. In addition to defending people who had been charged with driving under the influence, he handled personal injury and wrongful death litigation as well as small-business disputes and divorce and other family law cases, and he continues to represent clients in all of those practice areas.

Mr. O’Shea’s OVI clients have greatly benefited from his skills in presenting their cases before judges as well as his ability to negotiate favorable plea agreements on their behalf with prosecutors. He has mounted successful challenges to the initial traffic stop itself, often on the basis of asserting that the authorities conducting it did not have the requisite reasonable suspicion that a crime had been or was in the process of being committed. Other clients have seen their charges dismissed or reduced on the grounds that the breath testing machines were improperly calibrated or poorly maintained.
