The founder of Nemeth Associates LLC, Richard H. Nemeth focuses his practice primarily on bankruptcy matters, and he assists clients throughout the state of Ohio from the firm’s offices in Cleveland. He has been admitted to practice before all Ohio state courts since 1984, and he is additionally admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States.  In 2022 Mr. Nemeth was elected President of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys; his two-year term will begin January 1, 2023.

As an undergraduate, Mr. Nemeth attended Case Western Reserve University, where he majored in geology and received a Bachelor of Arts in 1978. He then pursued his legal education at the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, which is a part of Cleveland State University, and in 1984, he was awarded his Juris Doctor. Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Nemeth was the general counsel of an oil and gas limited partnership syndication company.

A significant portion of Mr. Nemeth’s client base are people who have become overwhelmed by their seemingly insurmountable financial obligations. He works with them to explore the types of relief that might be available to them, including both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, and he explains the various eligibility and other requirements of each. Mr. Nemeth has also assisted homeowners who are facing foreclosure as well as other clients who have fallen behind on their car loan payments and who are in danger of having their vehicles repossessed.

Mr. Nemeth is a frequent lecturer on topics related to his practice areas, and he was instrumental in the passage of legislation that expanded the assets that are exempt from bankruptcy liquidation under Ohio law. Held in high regard by his colleagues, he possesses an “Excellent” peer review rating through Avvo.
