    Scholarly Lectures/Writings:

    • Book:  Shawn Dominy authored the book 'I Was Charged With DUI/OVI - Now What?!'.  Being charged with DUI/OVI is stressful and leads to many questions.  This book was designed to answer those questions so readers can educate themselves with one book in the comfort of their own home. There is a lot of misinformation about DUI/OVI cases, and this book dispels some of the common myths about DUI/OVI.  Part One explains DUI/OVI and its consequences.  Part Two discusses evidence in DUI/OVI cases.  Part Three describes the court process.  Part Four provides a framework for evaluating the case and identifies resources for choosing a DUI/OVI lawyer., iUniverse Publishing, 2014
    • Book:  Shawn Dominy authored a chapter of the book 'Defending DUI Vehicular Homicide Cases'.  Settlements in DUI vehicular homicide cases are unique due to the complexity of the cases, the public animosity toward drunk drivers, and the tough sentences faced by defendants. These cases present additional challenges due to the emotional dynamics of the cases and potential civil liability, as well as added pressure from victims’ families, special interest groups, and the media. This chapter focuses on strategies for negotiating settlements with prosecutors and evaluating settlement offers with clients.  For negotiating with prosecutors, I keep things simple with the Greek philosophy of persuasion:  ethos, pathos, and logos. Roughly translated, that means character appeal, emotional appeal, and logical appeal. When evaluating settlement offers with clients, I do not recommend the philosophy of ethos, pathos, and logos because we are advising clients, not persuading them. Instead, I suggest treating these conversations more like a physician making a diagnosis, presenting treatment options, and making recommendations. After forming a good attorney-client relationship throughout the case, you can help the client do a cost-benefit comparison between the proposed settlement and a trial., Aspatore Publishing, 2012
