An academic scholar, Mr. Cannon's educational journey began at The University of Kansas, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature. His passion for law and justice led him to Washington, D.C., where he completed a clerkship with the United States Senate. He further honed his legal acumen at Oklahoma City University School of Law, gaining practical experience through a clerkship with the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals.
Since obtaining his license to practice law in Oklahoma in 2010, Mr. Cannon has been admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Oklahoma, the United States Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit, and the United States District Courts for the Western, Northern and Eastern Districts of Oklahoma.
Mr. Cannon's litigation career took flight with his participation in the National Trial Competition, where he showcased his skills as captain of the American Association of Justice Trial team. His pursuit of excellence led him to international law and trial advocacy programs in Germany. After earning his Juris Doctor in 2010, he served as an assistant district attorney in Canadian and Garfield County, where he gained invaluable courtroom experience.
A true consummate professional, Mr. Cannon’s journey continued as an assistant public defender in Oklahoma County, where he managed a felony docket and represented clients through every stage of the criminal justice process, including jury trials and appeals. His career trajectory then took him to the Office of the Attorney General, where he represented the State of Oklahoma in both state and federal courts, including appearances before the United States Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit. Eventually, he realized his vision of opening his own defense firm, Cannon & Associates.
Beyond his civilian practice, Mr. Cannon's dedication extends to his military service as a judge advocate in the Oklahoma National Guard. In this role, he has defended soldiers in various aspects of the military justice system, both in reserve and active duty capacities. As deputy staff judge advocate for the National Guard, he continues to provide legal counsel to soldiers, particularly in estate planning and family law matters such as divorce, adoption and child custody.
