Steven K. Balman has been of counsel to Shook & Johnson, PLLC, since 2019. He has brought to the firm his extensive experience in complex civil litigation at both the trial and appellate levels along with his background in constitutional law. Based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Mr. Balman provides representation to business and individual clients throughout the greater metropolitan area and across the state.

Mr. Balman has been admitted to practice in Oklahoma since 1981. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Oklahoma, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States. Mr. Balman has represented creditors, debtors, and trustees in litigation arising out of bankruptcy proceedings. His experience has also encompassed probate litigation involving will contests and fiduciary duty breaches, and his commercial litigation experience has included contract breaches, partner and shareholder disputes, and business torts. Mr. Balman attended Harvard University as an undergraduate and received a Bachelor of Arts cum laude in 1978. He then went on to pursue his legal education at The University of Texas at Austin School of Law, and in 1981 he was awarded his Juris Doctor with honors. Mr. Balman’s professional memberships have included the Tulsa County Bar Association, the Hudson-Hall-Wheaton American Inn of Court, the Tulsa Title and Probate Lawyers Association, and the Oklahoma Bar Association. He has also served as an associate bar examiner on The Oklahoma Board of Bar Examiners.
