Laura is the shareholder of her firm Schantz Law, P.C.  Laura is a family law attorney who is an advocate for her clients in thier divorce or modification of dissolution proceedings.  She also represents children in divorce cases regularly.  Laura settles most of her cases and mediation is one of the main ways that she resolves her cases.  For over 20 years she has balanced her clients’ competing needs for saavy assistance in their complex financial matters with important decisions regarding their children.

  • I was a presenter at the ABA family law conference in October 2015 in Portland, Oregon on the topic of When HE wants alimony.  I discussed how to handle a family law case when your client is the Husband and is requesting alimony, and, how to defend a family law case when you have the spouse who would have to pay alimony to the Husband, Presenter, When He wants Alimony, American Bar Association (Family Law Section), 2015

  • I was a presenter at the annual OSB Family Law Section CLE at Salishan in 2014.  My topic was Restricted Stock Units (RSUs): Asset, Income, or Both?  I spoke about how to divide RSUs from Intel and other high tech companies pursuant to a coverture fraction and how to do the calculation of the coverture fraction and the proper language to use in the General Judgment.  I also discussed how to consider the vesting of RSUs and income for spousal and child support purposes.  My co-speaker was Doug Peterson., Speaker Oregon Family Law Conference, RSUs: Asset, Income or Both, OSB Family Law Section, 2014

  • I prepared a training video, shooting it all myself and editing it on ivideo, as well as loading it on to Youtube.  I am only in the first scene.  It is a mandatory training video that all attorneys who represent children in Washington County, Oregon must watch in order to represent children in family law cases.  The Judge, attorneys, and psychologist presenters did a great job.
