Anthony D. Kuchulis is a Portland, Oregon management-side employment attorney and litigator who represents employers in complex workplace disputes and provides practical employment-law advice to executives, human-resources leaders, and in-house counsel. A partner at Dunn Carney LLP, his practice centers on employment litigation defense and employer counseling in matters arising under Oregon, Washington, and federal law.
Mr. Kuchulis defends businesses in state and federal court, arbitration, administrative proceedings, and appeals. His employment practice includes disputes involving discrimination, disability accommodation, retaliation, protected leave, wage-and-hour requirements, workplace harassment, wrongful discharge, and related contract and business claims. He also advises employers before litigation begins, helping them evaluate risk, respond to employee complaints, conduct or manage workplace investigations, address performance and discipline issues, and make difficult personnel decisions.
He approaches each matter as both a trial lawyer and a business adviser. Rather than treating a legal claim in isolation, he identifies the operational, financial, and reputational consequences that matter to the client, assesses leverage early, and develops a strategy designed to reach the best available business outcome. When a case requires a contested resolution, he is prepared to carry it through trial, arbitration, administrative adjudication, or appeal. During his career, he has obtained favorable jury verdicts, arbitration awards, appellate outcomes, and administrative decisions in complex matters.
Mr. Kuchulis represents employers and businesses in a range of industries, including healthcare systems and specialty healthcare providers, hospitality, construction, government and municipal entities, property management and real estate, and professional services. His broader experience in commercial litigation, insurance disputes, regulatory proceedings, and business counseling is particularly useful when an employment dispute overlaps with other legal and operational concerns.
Within the profession, Mr. Kuchulis has held leadership and service roles with the Oregon State Bar and the American Bar Association. His service has included membership on the Oregon State Bar Uniform Civil Jury Instructions Committee, work with the ABA Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section, and service on the Oregon New Lawyers Division Executive Committee. He earned his J.D. with honors from Lewis & Clark Law School and his B.A. from the University of Oregon. He is admitted in Oregon and Washington, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Washington, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Mr. Kuchulis was selected to the Oregon Rising Stars list each year from 2014 through 2023.
