Anthony K. Chavez

As an associate attorney at Scissors Law, based in Portland, Oregon, Anthony K. Chavez offers legal representation to clients in a range of criminal defense matters, with a focus on restraining orders and stalking protective orders. He is committed to safeguarding the rights of individuals facing serious legal challenges and provides strategic guidance throughout every stage of the legal process.

Mr. Chavez brings valuable courtroom experience to his role. He creates thoughtful and strategic defenses that fit the specific circumstances of each case. He treats every matter as if it will go to trial and is prepared to fight aggressively in court when necessary. At the same time, he knows that many cases settle outside of court, so he values clear communication, making sure clients understand their choices to make informed decisions.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Chavez worked as a public defender in Oregon’s largest county, where he was responsible for managing a full felony caseload. In that position, he handled a variety of serious and complicated cases, including matters involving domestic violence, kidnapping and burglary.

Mr. Chavez graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and government from Texas State University in 2019. Later, he went on to pursue his legal studies at the University of Oregon School of Law, where he developed his trial advocacy and earned his Juris Doctor in 2023. The same year he graduated from law school, he became licensed to practice law in Oregon.

Mr. Chavez has deep roots in the legal field, having grown up in a family of criminal defense attorneys that influenced his interest in advocacy from an early age. Beyond the courtroom, he remains engaged in the legal community and was elected to serve as a board member of the Oregon Minority Lawyers Association in 2025.
