Nicole L. Deering works as a family law attorney at DBMA Family Law Group, the Portland, Oregon, law firm of which she is an owner and founding partner.
After earning her Juris Doctor at Lewis & Clark Northwestern School of Law, Ms. Deering began her legal career as a legal aid attorney. Her special passion was providing access to justice for poverty-stricken domestic violence survivors. 25 years later, she puts her extensive family law experience to work for her family law clients.
Ms. Deering firmly believes in the “least harm” approach to the practice of family law. By this, she means that her focus always consists of putting the children’s needs and best interests first, followed closely by understanding and seeking to maximize the emotional and financial security of all the concerned parties. Consequently, she uses mediation and collaboration whenever appropriate and feasible. When an amicable divorce cannot be achieved, however, she serves her clients as an aggressive trial advocate during litigation.
A respected member of the legal community, Ms. Deering maintains membership in the Oregon Women Lawyers Association, the Multnomah Bar Association, the Oregon Academy of Family Law Practitioners and the Family Law Section of the Oregon State Bar. She also cherishes the time she spends with the Portland Women’s Foundation, an organization focusing on the humanity behind the statistics and the women behind the numbers.
