Ryan Scott focuses his practice exclusively on criminal defense, participating in cases at both the trial and appellate levels. He assists clients throughout the greater Portland, Oregon, metropolitan area who have been charged by the state with major felonies. He is known among other criminal defense lawyers for both his deep understanding of complex legal issues and his willingness to help other attorneys.
Ryan is frequently invited to speak on issues related to criminal defense, from demurrers and motions to suppress to creative defense strategies to jury instructions. He was the co-editor of the OCDLA Search and Seizure Manual for a number of years and has also been the author of chapters in criminal defense treatises on pretrial motions and drug trafficking. Majoring in English as an undergraduate, Ryan attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, and he received a Bachelor of Arts in 1990. After working for more than two years at the American Anthropological Association, he decided to pursue a legal career and enrolled at Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, and he was awarded his Juris Doctor in 1995. Mr. Scott spent several years as a public defender before entering private practice. He is admitted to practice before all Oregon state courts.
