Robert C. Gerhard, III

Robert C. Gerhard, III is an elder law specialist with the Montgomery County elder law firm of Gerhard & Gerhard, P.C., located in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania. His practice is devoted exclusively to elder law matters, with an emphasis on Medicaid law and asset protection for families facing nursing home situations, including appeals for clients whose Medicaid benefits have been denied or discontinued. Mr. Gerhard is certified as an elder law attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation, as approved by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and the American Bar Association. He one of just a few attorneys in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania who can claim this distinction. Attorney Gerhard authored the Pennsylvania law treatise on Medical Assistance long-term care benefits. His treatise, Pennsylvania Medicaid: Long-Term Care, now in its 19th edition, has been fully updated for 2023. It is updated annually and purchased by hundreds of lawyers each year from across Pennsylvania. Gerhard was one of several attorneys who contributed to the law treatise, Pennsylvania Elder Law, Fifth Edition, published by the PBI Press. Mr. Gerhard is past chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Elder Law Section, and currently president-elect of the Pennsylvania Association of Elder Law Attorneys. He served as chair of the Montgomery Bar Association's Elder Law Committee for over 15 years. Gerhard is a frequent lecturer at continuing legal education seminars for Pennsylvania lawyers on elder law subjects, primarily teaching on the topics of eligibility for Medicaid long-term care benefits, Pennsylvania's estate recovery program, and protection of assets from nursing home costs for the spouse at home. 

Mr. Gerhard holds an AV Preeminent* peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell and is a member of several professional organizations, including the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the Montgomery County Estate Planning Council and the Philadelphia Estate Planning Council. He has been selected for inclusion in Pennsylvania Super Lawyers 2005-2023, as seen in both Philadelphia magazine and Pennsylvania Super Lawyers.

Mr. Gerhard was elected as a Fellow of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC). ACTEC is an organization of approximately 2,600 trust and estate attorneys elected to membership by demonstrating the highest level of integrity, commitment to the profession, competence, and experience as trust and estate counselors. 

Bob enjoys tennis, pickleball, any activity involving the ocean, and his family dog, a high strung but loveable Boston Terrier.
