At Flitter Milz in Narberth, Pennsylvania, founding partner Cary L. Flitter has built a formidable reputation across three demanding corners of consumer law: solar company fraud, wrongful auto repossession and credit reporting violations. For more than three decades, his courtroom work in these areas has not merely resolved disputes but has reshaped the legal landscape itself, establishing precedents that continue to guide consumer protection cases nationwide.
Mr. Flitter's journey began on the other side of the courtroom, representing lenders, mortgage companies and banks. That chapter closed decades ago, and since then he has devoted his career entirely to advocating for everyday consumers against the very types of institutions he once defended – banks, credit unions, finance companies, dealerships and debt collectors. Admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York, he has litigated both individual claims and sprawling class actions, securing over $100 million in relief for clients harmed by unlawful repossession practices alone.
A Philadelphia native educated at Central High School, Philadelphia University and Widener University's Delaware Law School, Mr. Flitter has paired his litigation career with a lasting commitment to legal education. He honed his courtroom craft at the National Institute for Trial Advocacy and further sharpened it at the Trial Lawyers College, training grounds that shaped him into the formidable litigator he is today.
Mr. Flitter has taught consumer law at Temple University's Beasley School of Law and at Widener, guest-lectured at Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania, and personally briefed all 640 of Pennsylvania's Magisterial District Judges on debt collection law through a 13-session course spanning 2018 and 2019.
A prolific legal author, Mr. Flitter has contributed to leading treatises such as Pennsylvania Consumer Law and the National Consumer Law Center's Consumer Class Actions and Repossessions. His record of public service has earned him numerous honors, including NACA's Consumer Advocate of the Year, the Hon. Milton O. Moss Public Service Award and recognition from the Pennsylvania Bar Association for his pro bono contributions to underserved communities.
