She began her career as a criminal defense attorney with the Defender Association of Philadelphia, representing indigent defendants who had been charged with various criminal offenses. Admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and California, Ms. Pierce is also admitted to practice before the the U.S. District Courts for the District of New Jersey and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States.

She has been a visiting professor at Santa Clara University School of Law and an adjunct professor at both Temple University Beasley School of Law and Rutgers School of Law – Camden, and she currently serves on the faculty of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy.
