Ryan Cooney

Extending zealous professional law practice in Pennsylvania for about a decade, attorney Ryan Cooney is a co-founder of the Pittsburgh firm The Cooney Law Offices. He provides representation majorly to the people of Pittsburgh and the surrounding counties in matters related to bankruptcy, out-of-court workouts, creditor's rights, and business litigation.  

In addition to credible representation, Mr. Cooney gives learned advice to his clients on all aspects of business management. Drawing from years of experience handling commercial bankruptcy, he has gained extensive knowledge in business ownership, formation, acquisition, financing, partnership disputes and dissolution. He uses this cognizance to aid his clients in navigating the complexities of the law. 

Taking on cases on behalf of debtors, creditors and trustees, Mr. Cooney primarily handles issues under Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code. His clientele mostly includes small-business owners whose requirement is to mitigate their liabilities related to personal guarantees. Moreover, he represents them in lawsuits involving fraudulent transfers and discharging of debts.  

Before commencing his legal journey, Mr. Cooney completed a bachelor’s degree in risk management and insurance from The Ohio State University, Fisher College of Business. Later, he obtained his doctorate in jurisprudence with a focus on civil litigation from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 2014. While studying law, he joined a private boutique firm as a law clerk, where he served for nine-plus years climbing the career ladder to the stature of a reputable attorney. He has also completed a course from the University of Virginia’s National Trial Advocacy College. 

Licensed to practice in Pennsylvania, Mr. Cooney is also admitted to appear before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit and the U.S. Tax Court. Being a respected member of the legal community, he is anointed with posts of responsibility at prominent legal associations. He is the secretary of the Allegheny County Bar Association’s Bankruptcy and Commercial Law Section and has been on the executive committee for The Judith K. Fitzgerald Western Pennsylvania Bankruptcy American Inn of Court. Furthermore, he imparts his legal acumen to others through lectures at the Annual Bankruptcy Symposium and the Allegheny County Bar Association’s Bench-Bar Conference.
