Attorney Profile

William D. Phillips is the co-founder of Phillips, Phillips & Smith-Delach, P.C., where he focuses his practice exclusively on personal injury and wrongful death litigation. From the firm's offices in Washington, Pennsylvania, his client base comes from throughout the greater Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Admitted to practice in Pennsylvania since 1962, Mr. Phillips is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and the Supreme Court of the United States.

The types of cases that Mr. Phillips has handled during his distinguished career have arisen out of incidents involving medical malpractice, truck and other motor vehicle crashes, sexual abuse, construction site accidents, premises liability, and defective products. He has been able to obtain significant compensation for his plaintiff clients, both through jury awards and negotiated settlements, and his fellow professionals have taken notice of his successful track record. The recipient of an AV Preeminent* peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell, Mr. Phillips has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America every year since 1999. In addition, he is a fellow in the invitation-only American College of Trial Lawyers. Outside of the courtroom, Mr. Phillips is often asked by other attorneys to mediate personal injury cases and business disputes.

Mr. Phillips attended Washington & Jefferson College as an undergraduate, majoring in economics and receiving a Bachelor of Arts in 1959. He then pursued his legal education at Duquesne University School of Law in Pittsburgh and was awarded his Juris Doctor with honors in 1962. After graduation, he served for two years in the U.S. Army and then was an assistant district attorney with the Washington County District Attorney's Office before entering private practice. His professional memberships include the Western Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association and the American Association for Justice.
