Amy L. Gaffney is a founding member of Gaffney Lewis LLC. Dividing her practice among employment law matters, civil rights violations, and personal injury and wrongful death litigation, she provides representation to clients throughout the state of South Carolina from the firm’s offices in Columbia. Ms. Gaffney is also a trained mediator, and she has been admitted to practice law in South Carolina since 1994. She is additionally admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit.
In her employment law practice, Ms. Gaffney has represented both employees and their employers in a variety of matters. The cases that she has worked on have included allegations of workplace discrimination governed by such laws as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Equal Pay Act, sexual harassment, wrongful termination and other acts of retaliation, and wage and hour disputes covered by the federal Fair Labor Standards Act. Ms. Gaffney has also prepared and reviewed employment contracts, severance agreements and noncompete agreements.
Ms. Gaffney has additionally represented victims of civil rights violations covered by the Civil Rights Act of 1871, also known as Section 1983, and she advocates on behalf of people who have been harmed as a result of the negligence of other persons or entities. Thanks in part to her successful track record in all of these endeavors, she is AV Preeminent* peer-review rated through Martindale-Hubbell, and she has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America. Ms. Gaffney majored in communications at Queens University of Charlotte and received a Bachelor of Arts magna cum laude in 1991. She subsequently attended the University of South Carolina School of Law and was awarded her Juris Doctor in 1994.
