Deyaska Spencer Sweatman

Deyaska Spencer Sweatman, founder of The Deyaska Spencer Law Firm in Columbia, South Carolina, is a dedicated advocate for individuals harmed by the negligence of others throughout North Carolina and South Carolina. Raised in Columbia, South Carolina, Ms. Sweatman graduated from Dreher High School before beginning her studies at Spelman College in Atlanta. She later earned her bachelor’s degree in political science with a concentration in public policy from the University of South Carolina. She went on to obtain her Juris Doctor from North Carolina Central University School of Law, where she also earned a certificate in dispute resolution.

During law school, Ms. Sweatman demonstrated strong leadership by serving on the board of the National Black Law Students Association and representing her peers as liaison to the North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA). Her professional achievements began early: she was honored with the Charles F. Blanchard Young Lawyer of the Year Award in 2015 by NCBA and appointed that same year as NCBA’s Young Lawyer Delegate to the American Bar Association House of Delegates, making history as the sole African American in the state’s delegation.

Licensed to practice in both North Carolina and South Carolina, Ms. Sweatman continues to serve her community beyond the courtroom. She is co-chair of the South Carolina Bar Diversity Committee’s Pipeline Subcommittee and vice chair of the Richland County Democratic Party. Operating from her office in the Forest Acres area, she remains deeply engaged in advancing diversity, equity and opportunity while delivering steadfast representation for those in need.
