A. Hoyt Rowell, III

A. Hoyt Rowell III is a seasoned litigator with more than 46 years of experience handling complex cases, including consumer class actions on behalf of individuals who have suffered harm through no fault of their own. He works out of the law office of Rogers, Patrick, Westbrook & Brickman, LLC, located in Charleston, South Carolina.

Mr. Rowell excelled academically, graduating near the top of his class at both the University of South Carolina in 1970 and the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1973. After completing law school, he embarked on a two-year clerkship under the Honorable Sol Blatt Jr., who would go on to establish an illustrious career as a federal judge. Subsequently, Mr. Rowell, along with Coming Ball Gibbs, Mark Tanenbaum and Foster Gilliard, established their law firm in 1975 and practiced together for four years.

From 1979 to 1989, Mr. Rowell operated as a solo practitioner until his increasing caseload involving mass tort cases necessitated joining a larger firm with greater organizational capacity. He was later employed by another large firm before becoming a part of his current firm in 2002. Mr. Rowell holds admissions before all state courts in South Carolina and the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina.

Mr. Rowell is an active member of various professional organizations, including the American Bar Association, the South Carolina Association for Justice (where he served as past president), the South Carolina Bar and the American Association for Justice. Mr. Rowell is also a member emeritus of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit, Judicial Conference. He has received accolades, such as being listed in The Best Lawyers in America in 2009 for health care law and personal injury litigation and being named Lawyer of the Year in 2018.
