A former federal prosecutor, attorney Joseph P. Griffith, Jr. partners with the Mt. Pleasant-based Joe Griffith Law Firm, LLC, in South Carolina. Providing dedicated legal service across the state for more than 40 years, he represents clients who have incurred catastrophic injuries due to the faulty or negligent actions of others, and also defends federal agencies and the government in cases involving medical malpractice. Primarily a litigator, he focuses his practice on white-collar criminal defense, complex business and whistle-blower claims, especially qui tam cases under the False Claims Act.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Griffith has proficiently handled complex injury litigation matters involving medical malpractice and nursing home abuse. He has won several millions of dollars in settlements and verdicts for his clients, which secured him a membership in the Multimillion-Dollar Advocates Forum.

Mr. Griffith’s tenure as an assistant U.S. attorney has taught him several lessons of objective analysis and research that have proved integral to his growth as an esteemed defense attorney. He has prosecuted several petty and serious criminals and has closely worked with the federal grand jury and corporate internal investigations on bad faith and fraudulent claims. These experiences have given him direct intel into the strategies of the opposition and the laws that govern them, facilitating him to craft plans with better chances of a positive outcome.

In recognition of his merits, Mr. Griffith was peer-review rated as AV Preeminent* through Martindale-Hubbell and honored with a 10.0 rating on Avvo. He was also listed among The Best Lawyers in America, America’s Top 100 Bet-the-Company Litigators, the South Carolina Lawyers Weekly’s Go-To Lawyer and America’s Top 100 High Stakes Litigators.

Mr. Griffith holds a 1979 bachelor’s degree in English from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and obtained his law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1982. Soon after, he gained his license to practice in South Carolina and was qualified to appear before all the state and federal courts of South Carolina, the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit.
