Dakota J. Derrick

Dakota J. Derrick is a shareholder and trial attorney at Derrick Law Firm Injury Lawyers, PC, in North Charleston, South Carolina. Hailing from Conway, South Carolina, he realized his lifelong ambition when he returned home to partner with his father and represent those in need. His practice is devoted exclusively to plaintiff-side personal injury litigation, concentrating on automobile and commercial trucking collision cases, where he tirelessly advocates for individuals devastated by negligence.

Raised in Conway, Mr. Derrick earned a football scholarship to Furman University and excelled as the Paladins’ starting quarterback. His experiences on the gridiron instilled in him leadership, resilience and strategic thinking, qualities that now inform his courtroom approach. After completing his undergraduate studies, he enrolled at the University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law. There, he revived the mock trial team and led his peers to compete in several national tournaments, cementing his passion for trial advocacy.

Graduating from law school in 2016, Mr. Derrick accepted a two-year judicial clerkship with Justice John Cannon Few of the South Carolina Supreme Court. In that role, he gained exposure to complex legal issues and assisted in drafting more than two dozen majority and dissenting opinions. This experience sharpened his legal writing, analytical skills and deep understanding of South Carolina jurisprudence.

Today, Mr. Derrick is admitted to practice before all state courts in South Carolina and is an active member of both the South Carolina Bar and the South Carolina Association for Justice. His dedication to each client, combined with a reputation for integrity and thorough preparation, underscores his promise as a rising leader in personal injury law.
