He received his Bachelor of Science in 1972 from the University of South Carolina, where he was a member of the honorary societies of Beta Gamma Sigma and Omicron Delta Epsilon. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina in 1975.

Williams and Williams was formed in 1975 by Charles H. Williams and his father, Marshall B. Williams, Sr. Marshall B. Williams, Sr. served in the South Carolina Senate from 1953-1995, and was President Pro Tempore of the South Carolina Senate from 1989 until his death in 1995. Charles H. Williams is married to Karen J. Williams, who is the former Chief Judge of the Fourth Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals. He is a member of the Orangeburg County Bar, South Carolina Bar, American Bar Association, South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association, American Association for Justice, American Board of Trial Advocates, Litigation Counsel of America, South Carolina Super Lawyers, and American College of Trial Lawyers.
