Lisa J. Gill is the founder of Gill Family Law, PLLC in Germantown, Tennessee. Licensed in Tennessee and Mississippi, she represents clients throughout the Mid South at both the trial and appellate levels, and she concentrates her practice on all areas of family law, including divorce, child custody and parenting matters, child support, paternity, adoption, termination of parental rights, juvenile court matters, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, and LGBTQ+ family law.
Ms. Gill is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and is Board Certified as a Family Law Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. She is a Rule 31 Listed Mediator and also represents parties in mediation and arbitration outside the courtroom. Her practice regularly involves complex matters, including families navigating mental health or addiction issues, families who own businesses, and families seeking to protect assets across generations. Before turning to family law, she resolved business disputes involving commercial and residential real estate, construction, shareholder conflicts, breach of fiduciary duty investigations, and employment issues. That background informs her work on the financial side of divorce.
Ms. Gill was a small business owner before she became a lawyer, and she remains one today. That experience shapes how she counsels business owners and how she runs her own firm: cost efficient, reliable, and results oriented.
Her approach begins with listening. She works with each client to understand their expectations, then builds a strategy around their objectives. She pursues resolution through negotiation or mediation whenever possible while keeping every case prepared for trial, so her clients are never caught unprepared if settlement talks stall. Having experienced divorce herself, she understands that clients want an attorney who works aggressively toward resolution while helping them preserve their dignity and a measure of control over decisions that will shape the rest of their lives.
Ms. Gill earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law and her Bachelor of Professional Studies, magna cum laude, from the University of Memphis. She is a graduate of the NITA Family Law Trial Advocacy Program, Leadership Germantown, and the Memphis Bar Association Leadership Forum.
A recognized leader in the family law bar, Ms. Gill serves as Chair of the Tennessee Bar Association Family Law Section Executive Committee, as a Director on the Board of the Memphis Bar Association, and as Vice Chair of the Executive Committee for Leadership Germantown. She is a Fellow of the Memphis Bar Foundation, a member of the Memphis ADR American Inns of Court, and a member of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers Law Practice Management and Technology Committee. She is a past president of the Association of Women Attorneys Memphis Chapter and the Mississippi Bar Association Northwest Mississippi Young Lawyers Division.
Ms. Gill has been selected to Super Lawyers every year since 2016, holds a Superb rating on Avvo, and was named to the Memphis Business Journal Best of the Bar in 2021. She writes and speaks frequently on family law, including a Tennessee Bar Journal article on the proposed Tennessee Domestic Relations Arbitration Act and continuing legal education programs on closely held businesses in divorce, cryptocurrency in discovery, orders of protection, effective negotiation, and Tennessee family law legislative updates.
In the community, Ms. Gill sponsors the Leadership Germantown Future Leaders youth program, has supported the Tennessee Women's Advocacy Center, and devotes her time to mentoring and leadership programs through bar associations in Tennessee and Mississippi.
