Melanie manages the firm's family law division and also continues a limited complex criminal practice of A/B felony litigation. While Melanie is based in the Nashville Metropolitan Area, she practices across Middle Tennessee. Her experience, knowledge and exceptional work ethic anchors the development of trial strategies unique to each case to produce positive outcomes for clients. Melanie's purpose is rooted by helping people and serving others. Her community and organizational involvement include serving as a member of the Domestic Violence State Coordinating Counsel, appointed by the Secretary of State for Tennessee, and serving as a board member for the nonprofit, Our Sisters Keeper. Melanie has been an active member of TACDL for more than twenty years, serving as the 2025/2026 President. She has served as a two-time member for the TACDL Board of Directors and formerly served as the Legislative Committee Chair. Throughout her service to TACDL, she has regularly represented the organization in their legislative initiatives, including drafting legislation and policy, working with legislators on the development of policies, and providing testimony to various committees at the legislature.
She was appointed by the Tennessee Supreme Court to serve as a Hearing Committee Member for the Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility, serving in that capacity from 2011-2017. In 2013, Melanie was recognized by Cumberland University with the Distinguished Alumni Award, where she previously served as a professor teaching Constitutional and Criminal law. She was the recipient of the Robert W. Ritchie Award from the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in 2016; and the Workhorse Award from the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in 2010.
