    Attorney Profile

John C. Ryland is a member of Black McLaren Jones Ryland & Griffee, P.C. Located in Memphis, Tennessee, he provides representation to clients throughout the greater metropolitan area. Admitted to practice before all Tennessee state courts, he is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee as well as before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit.

A significant portion of Mr. Ryland's varied practice consists of family law matters. In this regard, he represents people whose marriages are coming to an end and who are thus having to deal with such divorce-related issues as spousal and child support, the division of marital assets and debts, and child custody and visitation. A forceful courtroom advocate for his clients when litigation is necessary, his extensive experience in mediation allows him to help many of them reach an accord on these matters through the use of those alternative dispute resolution methods. Mr. Ryland has also assisted clients whose marriages have already been dissolved and who are now seeking the enforcement of or modifications to existing support and parenting court orders.

Mr. Ryland's practice also encompasses other types of civil litigation, and he has represented health care practitioners who are being sued for medical malpractice. In addition, he has extensive criminal defense experience. His successful track record in all of these endeavors along with his high degree of ethics has garnered the attention of his colleagues, as evidenced by his receipt of an AV Preeminent* peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell and an "Excellent" peer review rating through Avvo. Mr. Ryland obtained his legal education at the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, and he served on The University of Memphis Law Review before receiving his Juris Doctor with honors in 1994.
