David G. Ridings is the founder of Ridings Law Group, P.C., a premier criminal defense law firm serving Nashville, Tennessee, and the surrounding areas. Since 1998, he has leveraged his extensive law enforcement background to fiercely protect clients facing serious criminal charges. He provides aggressive legal representation across a broad spectrum of cases, concentrating on comprehensive criminal defense, domestic violence, weapons offenses, drug crimes and DUIs.
Before earning his J.D. from the Nashville School of Law in 1998, Mr. Ridings built a deep foundation with bachelor's and master’s degrees in criminal justice administration from Middle Tennessee State University. His hands-on career started on the front lines, fighting crime with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s elite task force and the Murfreesboro Police Department, giving him rare insights that now empower his federal and state defense practice. He was admitted to practice law in Tennessee in 1998.
With over a decade of law enforcement experience prior to his legal profession, Mr. Ridings anticipates the state’s legal strategies and identifies procedural errors. Furthermore, his firsthand experience with street investigations and forensics allows him to dismantle the prosecution's evidence, delivering an aggressive defense built on a deep understanding of both sides of the law. This experience, combined with his prosecutorial background, provides an invaluable insider advantage for his criminal defense clients.
Mr. Ridings’ professional affiliations reflect his deep commitment to quality representation and personalized legal defense. He is an active member of the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Southern States Police Benevolent Association, Inc. Trusted by his peers, he also proudly serves as an attorney for various members of the Fraternal Order of Police, bridging the gap between law enforcement and top-notch defense advocacy.

- As former police officer, prosecutor, and now a Judicial Magistrate and criminal defense attorney, I have witnessed the pivotal role that remaining silent plays in protecting an individuals’ constitutional rights and ensuring a fair legal process. I have interviewed literally thousands of people over the years who have not handled the police interaction the correct way. In fact, most people I have represented have not handled the interaction properly. I have always wanted to write this book, and teach people what they wish they had known the day before they got arrested. This book delves deep into the importance of maintaining silence and the reasons why individuals should never speak to the police without the guidance of legal counsel. Through a comprehensive exploration of the United States and Tennessee Constitutions, along with analysis of landmark legal cases, this book aims to empower readers with the knowledge they need to safeguard their rights and navigate the criminal justice system. “I don’t answer questions” (without a lawyer) is the ONLY thing you should ever say to a police officer. Period. Full stop! Read on, and let’s learn why., Author, I Don't Answer Questions, Amazon, Legal, 2024
