David G. Ridings is the founder and president of Ridings Law Group, P.C., a premier criminal defense firm in Nashville, Tennessee. With nearly 30 years of criminal defense experience—and almost four decades inside the justice system—he brings a rare, strategic advantage to every case he handles.

Mr. Ridings has defended individuals facing serious criminal charges ranging from DUI/DWI and drug offenses to domestic assault and violent felonies. A seasoned trial lawyer, he has handled hundreds of cases and is known for his ability to break down the prosecution’s case and expose weaknesses others miss.

Before entering private practice, Mr. Ridings served as a Metro Nashville police officer for over a decade and trained in the Davidson County District Attorney’s Office during law school. This dual perspective—law enforcement and prosecution—allows him to anticipate how cases are built and aggressively challenge them at every stage.

In 2023, Mr. Ridings was appointed by the Davidson County General Sessions Court judges to serve as a Night Court Judicial Magistrate, further distinguishing his deep involvement in the criminal justice system.

He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Middle Tennessee State University and his Juris Doctor from the Nashville School of Law. He is admitted to practice in Tennessee and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

Mr. Ridings is an active member of the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the National College for DUI Defense, and multiple law enforcement organizations. He also serves as General Counsel for the Tennessee Highway Patrol Retired Troopers Association.

Beyond the courtroom, Mr. Ridings is also known for his widely recognized “DrJudge” legal commentary platform, where he educates the public on constitutional rights, criminal law, and police encounters. Across social media platforms, his content reaches more than 750,000 followers and generates millions of views, making him one of the most visible criminal defense voices in the country. Through this platform, he breaks down real-world cases and legal issues, further reinforcing his reputation as a trusted authority for both the public and fellow attorneys. He is the lawyer that the news agencies call when they want to interview a high profile attorney.  This makes him the stand alone choice for prominence.

  • As former police officer, prosecutor, and now a Judicial Magistrate and criminal defense attorney, I have witnessed the pivotal role that remaining silent plays in protecting an individuals’ constitutional rights and ensuring a fair legal process. I have interviewed literally thousands of people over the years who have not handled the police interaction the correct way. In fact, most people I have represented have not handled the interaction properly. I have always wanted to write this book, and teach people what they wish they had known the day before they got arrested. This book delves deep into the importance of maintaining silence and the reasons why individuals should never speak to the police without the guidance of legal counsel. Through a comprehensive exploration of the United States and Tennessee Constitutions, along with analysis of landmark legal cases, this book aims to empower readers with the knowledge they need to safeguard their rights and navigate the criminal justice system. “I don’t answer questions” (without a lawyer) is the ONLY thing you should ever say to a police officer. Period. Full stop! Read on, and let’s learn why., Author, I Don't Answer Questions, Amazon, Legal, 2024
