Bybee of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.  Before his clerkship, Michael was an attorney at a large law firm in New York, where he worked on matters on behalf of foreign sovereigns, class action defense and investigations, and pro bono matters on behalf of low-income clients, including briefing at the U.S. Supreme Court.  Following his clerkship, Michael worked at a boutique litigation firm in New York, where he gained substantial experience in commercial litigation and arbitration.

Before law school, Michael worked as a translator overseas.
