Michael Lockman

Michael Lockman is an attorney in the Nashville office of Sanford Heisler Sharp McKnight, LLP.  Michael’s practice focuses on matters involving employment law, breach of contract, fraud, discrimination, retaliation, and civil rights. At Sanford Heisler Sharp McKnight, LLP, Michael has helped represent clients including technology, pharmaceutical, healthcare, and transportation executives as well as lawyers and salespeople in matters of race, age, and disability discrimination, wrongful termination, retaliation, and whistleblowing.

Michael has been licensed to practice law in New York since 2017 and in Tennessee since 2021, and he is additionally admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Michael received his law degree with High Honors from the University of Chicago Law School and his bachelor’s degree with Honors from the University of Chicago.  During law school, Michael served as Comments Editor on The University of Chicago Law Review and received the Edwin F. Mandel Award for Exceptional Contributions to the Law School’s Clinical Education Program.  Michael has authored articles that appear in The University of Chicago Law Review, the Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics, and others.

Before joining Sanford Heisler Sharp McKnight, LLP, Michael completed a clerkship for the Honorable Jay S. Bybee of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.  Before his clerkship, Michael was an attorney at a large law firm in New York, where he worked on matters on behalf of foreign sovereigns, class action defense and investigations, and pro bono matters on behalf of low-income clients, including briefing at the U.S. Supreme Court.  Following his clerkship, Michael worked at a boutique litigation firm in New York, where he gained substantial experience in commercial litigation and arbitration.

Before law school, Michael worked as a translator overseas.
