A partner at Hanna & Plaut, L.L.P., Catherine L. Hanna focuses her practice on the representation of insurance companies at both the trial and appellate levels. From the firm's office in Austin, Texas, she handles coverage issues as well as bad faith disputes involving all types of insurance policies. Ms. Hanna has practiced insurance defense for her entire career, and she has been able to secure favorable outcomes in cases involving fraudulent and frivolous claims. Highly regarded by her fellow attorneys, she has received an AV Preeminent* peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell.
Ms. Hanna is a 1984 graduate of Texas Tech University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in history. She pursued her legal education at Stanford Law School and was awarded her Juris Doctor in 1988. While in law school, Ms. Hanna interned with Community Legal Services in East Palo Alto. After graduation, she joined a prominent San Francisco firm practicing business and insurance coverage litigation before moving to Austin in 1990. Admitted to practice in Texas and California, Ms. Hanna is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Southern and Western Districts of Texas and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit.
A fellow of both the Austin Bar Foundation and the Texas Bar Foundation, Ms. Hanna is an active participant in several other professional organizations. Her memberships include the Travis County Women Lawyers' Association, the Defense Research Institute, the Austin Bar Association and the Insurance Law Section of the State Bar of Texas. Active in her community as well, Ms. Hanna serves on the City of Austin's Library Commission, and she has been a member of the board of trustees of the Round Rock Independent School District.
