Working out of the firm's Austin location, Ms. Cheney focuses her practice primarily on real estate law, planning and development, construction law, water law, contracts and procurements, and other related matters.

Throughout her career spanning over 36 years, Ms. Cheney has represented a diverse range of clients, from local municipalities and public utilities companies to private corporations and large-scale commercial developers with a host of issues involving land use and zoning, regulatory compliance, land acquisition, conservation efforts and more.

Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in residential and commercial real estate law, Ms. Cheney has extensive knowledge in these legal areas, and she has served as lead counsel on a number of multimillion-dollar development and conservation projects. Among her most notable successes include a $20 million real estate acquisition for the Balcones Canyonlands Conservation Plan and a $45 million real estate transaction to secure land for water quality protection.

A 1979 honors graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, Ms. Cheney returned to her alma mater and obtained her Juris Doctor in 1982 from The University of Texas at Austin School of Law, where she graduated Order of the Coif. The State Bar of Texas admitted her to practice that same year, and she is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas.

Regarded as a leader in her field, Ms. Cheney has written extensively and conducted lectures across her region on a variety of legal topics, and she has served as an adjunct legal professor instructing classes on real estate law, land titles and other subjects.

Active in her legal community, she currently chairs the State Bar of Texas Real Estate Forms Committee, and she once served on the Texas Board of Legal Specialization Real Estate Law Legal Assistants Commission.
