James W. (Jimmy) Evans is the founder of Evans Family Law Group in Austin, Texas, and a board-certified family law attorney (certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization) with more than 25 years of legal experience. His practice focuses exclusively on family law matters, including divorce, child custody, child support, adoption, grandparents’ rights, mediation and collaborative law.
Mr. Evans represents individuals and families throughout Texas who are facing significant life transitions and complex legal issues. Known for his balanced approach to advocacy, he strives to protect his clients’ interests while remaining mindful of the emotional realities that often accompany family disputes. His guiding philosophy – “Hard Enough to Win, Soft Enough to Care” – reflects his commitment to both strong legal representation and compassionate client service.
Earning his Bachelor of Arts from Austin College, Mr. Evans later obtained his Juris Doctor from Texas A&M School of Law. Shortly after receiving his law license, he began his legal career as an assistant criminal district attorney with the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office in Fort Worth. During his time there, he gained extensive courtroom experience, conducting approximately 90 jury trials and prosecuting a range of cases involving domestic violence, family violence and other serious criminal offenses. This early litigation experience provided him with strong trial advocacy skills that continue to benefit his family law clients today.
Mr. Evans is actively involved in several professional organizations within the legal community. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Austin Bar Association, the Williamson County Bar Association and the Family Law Section of the Travis County Bar. He also participates in the Texas Academy of Family Law and the Texas Family Law Foundation. In addition, he is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas.
Mr. Evans’ work in family law has earned him significant professional recognition. He holds a Distinguished* peer-review rating through Martindale-Hubbell and has a “Superb” rating on Avvo. He has also received the Clients’ Choice Award. These honors reflect the respect he has earned from both peers and clients.
Throughout his career, Mr. Evans has handled thousands of family law cases and has appeared in more than 100 jury trials, along with numerous hearings, mediations and collaborative proceedings.
