John J. Rivas is a partner at the firm Rivas Goldstein, LLP, with offices in Austin, Texas and New York City. He focuses his practice on health care law and administrative law matters. He has immense experience representing clients with matters involving heath care fraud, Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial Carriers SIU audits and investigations, Stark, Anti-Kickback, health care compliance, and white collar crime matters.
In addition to taking on cases for a range of clients in various industries, Mr. Rivas also represents clients in matters involving the FBI , OIG, MFCU as well as licensed health professionals before state licensure and peer-review boards, including the New York Office of Professional Discipline, the New York Department of Health Clinical Laboratory Evaluation Program, the New York Department of Education, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Texas Medical Board, the Texas Board of Nursing, and the Texas Health and Human Services Commission Office of Inspector General to name a few.
With a major in English, Mr. Rivas received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas in Austin. He pursued his legal studies at the Texas Tech University School of Law and obtained his Juris Doctor in 1993. He is licensed to practice in Texas, New York and New Jersey, as well as before the U.S. District Court for the Western and Southern Districts of Texas.
While in law school, Mr. Rivas participated in a National Mock Trial Competition, and for his involvement in many pro bono clinics, he was awarded the Legal Services Outstanding Volunteer Award. His prior work experience includes serving as an assistant general counsel for the Texas Medical Board and as assistant attorney general at the Texas Attorney General’s Office in the Elder Law and Public Health Division. He has also served as a prosecutor for Midland County Texas.
Actively associated with the legal community, Mr. Rivas is a member of the New York State Bar Association, Texas Association for Home Care & Hospice and the American Health Lawyers Association. He is a zealous and fierce defender of his clients’ rights and liberties, and ensures to help his clients resolve their issues, capitalize on opportunities, and safeguard their assets.
