JT began his legal career as a criminal defense attorney, representing clients charged with everything from simple traffic violations to international drug trafficking in federal court.  Over the years, he has tried more than 120 cases (both criminal and civil) to jury verdict, gaining invaluable courtroom experience and a deep understanding of what it takes to fight for real people under real pressure.

Beyond the courtroom, JT has serves on multiple Bill Review Committees for the Texas Trial Lawyers Association (TTLA).  He has been trusted by two TTLA Presidents to take on special legislative projects that focused on proposed legislation that could have further limited what medical malpractice victims could have recovered.  Even lawmakers have sought his input in drafting medical-related bills, and he has testified before both the Texas House and Senate on key issues affecting patient safety and medical accountability.
