A 2003 magna cum laude graduate of George Washington University, Mr. Thompson obtained his Juris Doctor cum laude from Fordham University School of Law in 2008. While there, he was an active participant in the school's Moot Court Competition, and he was a finalist in 2008 and won the Best Speaker Award that same year. He is admitted to the New York State Bar as of 2009 and the Texas State Bar as of 2016.

Upon receiving his license to practice in 2009, Mr. Thompson began his legal career as an associate with a prominent international law firm in New York. He then moved to Africa and counseled a foreign aid program sponsored by the United Nations, among others. Following that, he returned to the United States with his future wife, who is a native of Austin. Settling into the area, Mr. Thompson worked as an assistant district attorney with the district attorney’s office in San Marcos before re-entering private practice.
