James H. Hunter, Jr. is a senior partner in Royston Rayzor's Rio Grande Valley, Texas, office. A member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, Mr. Hunter devotes his practice to assisting industries, institutions and insurers in a broad range of litigation. Mr. Hunter is sought out because of his skills and experience in complex and large exposure cases. Representative clients include banks, contractors, transportation companies, manufacturers, energy companies and marine industries. Mr. Hunter has advocated successfully on behalf of his clients in jury and bench trials, appeals, and arbitration proceedings. Recently, he has been a frequent speaker on trials in the pandemic age.
Mr. Hunter earned his Bachelor of Arts from The University of Texas at Arlington in 1989 and his Juris Doctor from Oklahoma City University School of Law in 1992. He is licensed to practice law before the state courts of Texas; the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Eastern, Southern and Western Districts of Texas; the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit; and the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Hunter is a member of more than a dozen professional and civic organizations, including the State Bar of Texas, the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the American Board of Trial Advocates, Texas Association of Defense Counsel, the Defense Research Institute, the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce and the Brownsville Economic Development Council.
In addition to representing his clients and serving as outside counsel to several Rio Grande Valley businesses, Mr. Hunter gives back to the community that his family has lived in for four generations by performing pro bono work on behalf of local residents and charitable organizations. He serves with the Texas Association of Defense Counsel as a regional vice president, and he is a former Cameron County Bar Association president.
