Alan made war as an advocate for over 20 years, but now he makes peace.

Both sides of the civil trial docket are no stranger to Alan. As an advocate, he’s prosecuted the case for plaintiffs; he’s held the line for defendants. From it, Alan got his objectivity.

Known Decision-Makers

Alan knows the Houston area legal community, down deep. He’s practiced civil trial law here since 2006.

The jury pool is a particularly known quantity to Alan. Outside the civil courtroom, Alan has engaged citizens as a winning campaign manager in Montgomery County twice. And he’s written about it for Texas Lawyer.

Alan has darkened the doors of other courtrooms too. For over 13 years, Alan’s litigation practice routinely led him to federal court in Houston. He even found himself in federal court in Dallas and Midland/Odessa. He’s also practiced in Harris County for 16 years.

Bar Association Leadership

The Houston Bar Association gives Alan the chance to give back to the legal community. Today, he serves on the Council for both the HBA ADR Section and the HBA Labor & Employment Section.

The Montgomery County Bar also has a special place in Alan’s heart. He served two terms as the President of the Montgomery County Bar Association. The County Bar’s membership grew 10% over both of Alan’s terms, while most local bar associations’ membership shrank.

Every year since 2022, Alan secured the speakers for the Montgomery County Bar’s bench-and-bar conference – including nearly every judge at the courthouse. Alan also pulled together a lunch CLE from both judges on the Eleventh Business Court in Houston.

Like Alan leads with the bar associations, expect him to be actively engaged in your mediation…but in all the right ways.

Thought Leadership

Alan routinely shares his practical experience with other lawyers. He speaks and writes.

The State Bar of Texas has called on Alan to present for CLE conferences — like the SBOT Annual Meeting, Business Disputes and the Labor & Employment Institute.

The Corporate Counsel Section’s Corporate Counsel Review has published Alan’s articles four times. And Texas Lawyer has picked up over a dozen more.

Alan's Talks and Articles

Peers’ Respect

Super Lawyers has once again selected Alan to its Super Lawyers list in Alternative Dispute Resolution for 2026.

Even back as an advocate, Alan had his peers’ and opponents’ respect. Super Lawyers selected Alan for its Rising Stars list every year from 2012 to 2018. Then cancer demanded that Alan go a second round in the ring.

Justice Medina had choice words on the record about Alan as an advocate:

“…Mr. Bush is the consummate professional.
It’s — he’s just a — he’s an honor to our profession.
If we were working with more lawyers like that,
maybe dockets would get cleared quicker. — Justice Medina in the 284th Judicial District on 4.28.22

Cancer Journey

At 38 years old, Alan discovered he had genetic colon cancer. He fought three rounds with cancer and today, by a miracle, is cancer-free.

The victory had a cost. The “Mother of All Surgeries,” as the MD Anderson surgeons called it, took four months until Alan got back in the office. He has a permanent ostomy. And he’s needed a few more procedures to fix issues caused by the surgery. He closed his successful firm on The Woodlands Waterway.

Today, Alan mediates like he’d hoped since law school. He can talk to many plaintiffs having walked in their shoes.

Community-Minded

The Dispute Resolution Center for Montgomery County has a special place with Alan. He’s volunteered there consistently since starting his mediation practice.

After mediation work is done, Alan likes to live. He lifts weights, boxes, swims, runs, enjoys live music and grills in his backyard. He loves his wife and two girls. Alan is also very involved with his church family at Hope Church Montgomery. There, he serves as an ordained deacon and teaches with the kids’ ministry — about his maturity level sometimes.
