Jim Clancy is an attorney focusing his practice on complex business and commercial disputes. He is a member of Branscomb Law, a Texas law firm with offices in Austin, Corpus Christi, Houston, and San Antonio. In addition to representing clients in certain personal injury cases, he takes care of all elements of their business problems. As a trusted adviser, he takes great pride in his work and finds great satisfaction in the many cases he has resolved, whether through settlements or verdicts.
Mr. Clancy’s clients include industrial contractors, independent exploration companies, landowners, big and small businesses, and other professionals. In his 28-plus years of practice, he has successfully defended them in a variety of cases, including personal injury claims as a result of refinery explosions; engineering defects in the construction of a recycling plant; theft of trade secrets; and violation of employment agreements. He has also obtained million-dollar jury verdicts for fraud and quantum meruit, and another for a charitable foundation in a case of breach of fiduciary duty.
Graduating with the highest honors from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Mr. Clancy secured a bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 1986. Serving the army for about six years, he joined The University of Texas School of Law and completed his Juris Doctor degree in 1996. While in law school, he served as the associate editor of The Review of Litigation. In addition to being a board-certified specialist in Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, he is a certified civil and family mediator as well as a certified guardian ad litem.
Mr. Clancy has received much recognition for his exceptional legal work, including being peer-review rated AV Preeminent* through Martindale-Hubbell and being listed in The Best Lawyers in America for commercial litigation. An avid participant in the activities of the legal community, he has served as the chairman and commissioner of the Texas Ethics Commission and is a member of the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel.
