Attorney Profile

Brent Rosenthal is an AV® rated appellate lawyer recognized by attorneys nationwide for his role in shaping the common law governing asbestos and toxic tort litigation in Texas, as well as in other states.  A member of the American Law Institute and certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Civil Appellate Law, Brent has argued and briefed many appeals resulting in published opinions that are now routinely taught to students learning the fundamentals of product liability and mass tort law.  In addition, on a more practical level, Brent has earned a reputation for successfully defending large trial verdicts in state and federal jurisdictions throughout the country.

After thirty years at the prestigious plaintiffs’ firm Baron & Budd, most of that time heading the firm’s Appellate Section, Brent joined forces with fellow appellate specialist and Texas Superlawyer David Weiner and now handles a variety of matters in the state and federal trial and appellate courts.  Having personally argued cases in the United States Supreme Court, six federal circuit courts of appeal, and numerous state supreme and intermediate appellate courts, Brent has the experience to handle complex legal issues at the highest level of the judicial system.  Brent is also well-equipped to handle difficult legal problems in their formative stages in the trial courts and even before litigation has begun.

In addition to his work in and about the courtroom, Brent has contributed both to the legal profession and to the community.  Since 1996, Brent has served as an Adjunct Lecturer in Law at Southern Methodist University Law School, teaching a class each fall in Mass Tort Litigation.  He was elected to the board  of the Texas Center for Legal Ethics in 2009, and became Chair of the Center in 2013.  He also chairs the Permit and License Appeal Board for the City of Dallas, having been appointed to the board by three Dallas mayors:  the Honorable Laura Miller, the Honorable Tom Leppert, and the Honorable Mike Rawlings.  He is a past chair of the Dallas Bar Association Appellate Section, speaks frequently at legal seminars and conventions, and has published many articles in legal journals as well as the popular press.
