While in law school, she was a member of The Order of Barristers and was a finalist in the National Moot Court Competition. In 1982, the State Bar of Texas admitted her to practice, and she is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit.

Active in several professional legal organizations, Ms. Mitchell is the past president for both the American Board of Trial Advocates Dallas Chapter and the Dallas Trial Lawyers Association. Additionally, she also served on the District 6A Grievance Committee.

An accomplished author and speaker, she has published numerous articles and conducted many lectures on a variety of legal topics, and she has received several awards and honors for her professionalism and service, including an AV Preeminent peer review rating* from Martindale-Hubbell.
