Notably, he was the Lead Trial Lawyer in the successful defense of Halliburton in connection with all civil litigation and investigations concerning BP's Macondo well blowout in the Gulf of Mexico (Deepwater Horizon), generally recognized as the largest environmental litigation case in the history of the United States.  He also gained widespread respect among his peers for his work as Halliburton’s lead attorney in asbestos litigation; successfully negotiating settlements for 382,000 national asbestos claims within an impressive time frame of one year. 

After receiving a Bachelor of Science from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1969, Mr. Godwin went on to earn his Master of Science degree in accounting in 1970 from the University of Memphis. He then earned his Juris Doctor from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law in 1973.
