Certified as a specialist in family law by the Texas Board of Legalization, Jennifer Stanton Hargrave focuses her practice exclusively on that area of the law. The Owner of her own firm located in Dallas, she provides representation to clients throughout the greater metropolitan area who are contemplating or going through a divorce. A divorce can involve many different areas, including the division of marital assets and liabilities, child custody and visitation, alimony and child support, mental health issues, and others. In a high-conflict, lengthy, antagonistic battle, the entire family suffers. Based on her extensive background in collaborative law, Ms. Hargrave encourages her clients to approach their divorce using non-adversarial techniques to minimize conflict as much as possible. She also enables her clients to hold on to their core values as they go through this stressful process: decency, honesty, respect, and protection of the children. Ms. Hargrave helps her clients strategize how to work toward the best possible solution, which enables them to better maintain control of their case rather than handing decisions over to the courts. As a seasoned litigator as well, Ms. Hargrave is also prepared and equipped to provide forceful courtroom advocacy when necessary to protect what matters most to her clients.
In addition to her divorce practice, Ms. Hargrave regularly prepares and reviews prenuptial agreements and cohabitation agreements, and assists clients who are seeking modifications to support and parenting orders. Highly regarded by her peers for the sensitive and ethical way that she handles these matters, Ms. Hargrave maintains an AV Preeminent* peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell, has been included in Best Lawyers in America© since 2013 and Texas Super Lawyers (Family Law) since 2012.
Majoring in political science as an undergraduate, Ms. Hargrave attended the University of California - Davis, and received a Bachelor of Arts in 1992. Her legal education was obtained at SMU Dedman School of Law in Dallas, and she was awarded her Juris Doctor in 1995. After her graduation, Ms. Hargrave worked for a litigation law firm and then for a financial services company before turning her practice to family law exclusively in 2006. She co-founded a firm in November 2013, and achieved her goal of starting her current firm in October of 2017 as sole-Owner. Admitted to by the State Bar practice in Texas, her professional memberships include the Family Law Section of the Dallas Bar Association, the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists, and the Collaborative Law Institute of Texas.
