    Attorney Profile

Johnathan Collins has consistently been recognized as one of the best up-and-coming lawyers in Texas. This recognition stems from the consistent results he has achieved for clients in over twelve years of practice, first as a partner at a large international law firm in Texas, and now at Sanders Collins PLLC.  From billion dollar disputes for Fortune 500 companies, to small disputes for individuals, Johnathan approaches each case with the same intensity, determination, and commitment to excellence.

Johnathan represents plaintiffs and defendants in complex business and commercial litigation. He has represented plaintiffs and defendants in banking and finance litigation, construction litigation, shareholder disputes, hedge fund and private equity issues, business divorces, trade secret, non-compete, and copyright litigation. He also has extensive experience representing clients in significant personal injury, wrongful death, property damage, and product liability cases.

Johnathan's most recent successes include a total defense verdict for a lender in a $2.5 million real estate dispute with a land owner after a four day jury trial, and a plaintiff's copyright infringement verdict in which the judge dismissed all of the defendant's affirmative defenses on directed verdict, and the jury awarded Johnathan's client a reasonable royalty for the use of its copyright.

    His other recent work includes:

    • Prosecuted claims for commercial real estate developer against property seller for breach of a $10 million contract of sale related to encumbrance of property with oil and gas lease. Obtained a judgment for the full amount of damages sought plus attorney fees.

    • Represented commercial real estate developer and purchaser in indemnification lawsuit against property seller related to breaches of multi-million dollar purchase and sale agreement.

    • Defended oil and gas companies related to claims of, among other things, fraud, breach of contract, and violations of the Texas Natural Resources Code related to plaintiff’s purported purchase of working interests in oil and gas wells across Texas.

    • Represented oil and gas company in lease termination dispute.
    • Represented commercial property owner against claims alleging personal injury and premises liability arising out of alleged negligent repairs and/or negligent construction.

    • Defended trustee against claims of fraud, breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty made by limited partners arising out of approximately $32 million installment sales agreement.

    • Obtained summary judgment in nationwide putative class action against national bank related to claims of improper interest rate calculation and adjustments, and damage allegations in excess of $1 billion.

    • Litigated commercial lease disputes as both landlord and tenant.

    • Litigated disputes between members of LLCs related to claims of fraud, breach of contract, and breach of fiduciary duty.

    • Defended against claims and prosecuted counterclaims for breaches of software licensing agreement.

    • Defended and prosecuted claims for misappropriation of trade secrets and violation of non-compete agreements.

    • Obtained dismissal of mass action against national bank related to claims of discrimination in lending. Dismissal affirmed on appeal to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

    • Defended real estate investment trust related to allegations of defective construction of student dormitories across the country.

    • Representation of accounting firm related to claims for malpractice, tortious interference, breach of fiduciary duty, and conspiracy. The case resulted in a favorable settlement for the accounting firm.
