Dual board-certified attorney Kristin R. Brown is one of only a figurative handful of attorneys who is board-certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in both criminal law (trials) and criminal law (appeals).  Ms. Brown met all requirements for certification and successfully completed 12 hours of rigorous testing to obtain her board-certification for both areas in 2022.

A top-rated trial lawyer with nearly a decade of total legal experience, Ms. Brown specializes in criminal defense, and she provides unmatched counsel and support to clients throughout the greater Dallas metro region who stand accused of assaults, sexual offenses, drug crimes, and other felonies and misdemeanors in both juvenile and adult court and at both the state and federal level.    Ms. Brown has a reputation for hard work on cases pretrial, which has resulted in her solid record of securing acquittals, dismissals, reductions of charges, and the best possible negotiated pleas for her clients.

Ms. Brown also has extensive appellate experience, having taken more than 150 cases to the Texas courts of appeal, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, the Texas Supreme Court, and the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. Ms. Brown has gained a reputation for her fierce advocacy on behalf of her clients both inside and outside the courtroom at the trial and appellate levels.  Ms. Brown’s appellate advocacy has resulted in vacated and reversed sentences, reduction in time served through vacation of illegally cumulated sentences, and recently an extremely rare acquittal on appeal.

In recognition of her outstanding professionalism and service, Ms. Brown has been selected as a Super Lawyer’s Rising Star each year since 2017.  In 2023, Super Lawyer’s named Ms. Brown one of the Top 50 women attorneys in Texas and one of the Top 100 attorneys over all.  Ms. Brown has also been named a “Best Lawyer in Dallas” by D Magazine each year since 2021, has repeatedly earned a Top 100 Trial Lawyer designation from The National Trial Lawyers, has numerous Client's Choice awards, has an AV Preeminent Rating by both the judiciary and her colleagues each year since 2016, has been chosen as a “best appellate attorney” by her peers in the Dallas criminal bar, and has many other top rankings and endorsements from her peers. She has also received many testimonials and referrals from her satisfied clients.

A highly educated attorney, Ms. Brown received her undergraduate degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 2009, where she was a President's List scholar each year there. She was on the Dean’s List at Texas Wesleyan (A&M) University School of Law every eligible semester, and she received the Alma and Ronnie Blackwell Scholarship along with other merit scholarships.  During law school, Ms. Brown was a member of the Moot Court, Mock Trial, and Arbitration Competition Teams, was a teaching assistant, and was selected to law review, where her work was published.

Ms. Brown obtained her Juris Doctor magna cum laude in 2013, graduating Order of the Barristers and being awarded the Equal Justice award for pro bono service. She then attended Temple University's James E. Beasley School of Law, where she obtained her Master of Law in trial advocacy the following year.   Nearing completion of her master's degree in forensic science as well as a certificate in Death Investigation, Forensic Science and Technology from the University of Florida, Ms. Brown has begun a master's degree in forensic psychology from the University of North Dakota.  Ms. Brown is a graduate of the intensive and elite Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College.

Among her other professional affiliations, Ms. Brown is an active member of the Collin County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the Dallas Criminal Defense Lawyer's Association and the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, where Ms. Brown served as a board member from 2016 to 2022, still serves on numerous committees, and serves as co-chair of the Amicus Committee.  Ms. Brown is viewed as an authority on legal matters by her peers and is often sought out by colleagues for answers to troubling and tricky issues.  Ms. Brown has been published repeatedly and is a regularly requested speaker on matters such as evidence, DNA, eye-witness testimony, appellate issues, and more.

As a result, the trial court lacked jurisdiction to enter judgment against Appellant. The adult cases were dismissed, the cases remained pending in juvenile court. Davis v. The case was remanded to the trial court with an order to dismiss the indictment against my client with prejudice due to State's violation of the Interstate Agreement on Detainer's Act. State appealed to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, who granted review. After oral arguments, the Court ruled that review had been improvidently granted--leaving the opinion of the intermediate court intact. Mandate was issued early upon Defense motion and client was released from prison. Cahill v. State, 05-15-00577-CR (Tex. App.--Dallas, June 14, 2016, pet. dism'd as improv. granted), 2016
