Details

Michelle Simpson Tuegel has a national practice focused on serious injury and death cases, and the representation of sexual abuse survivors and other crime victims in civil lawsuits. Michelle was one of the first attorneys to file a lawsuit connected to the October 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas. She also represented a number of the Olympic and National team gymnasts who were sexually abused by Larry Nassar in litigation against the United States Olympic Committee, USA Gymnastics, and Michigan State. Michelle has filed Title IX lawsuits on behalf of women at the University of Southern California, on behalf of clergy abuse survivors in Pennsylvania connected to the 2018 Pennsylvania Grand Jury Report, and she is currently involved in over 100 sexual abuse cases in New York under the New York Child Victims Act.

A former world-ranked athlete in slalom water skiing, Michelle now uses her competitive drive to champion clients’ cases. At a time when most young lawyers are still writing memos and carrying a partner’s briefcase to the courthouse, Michelle was trying death penalty cases with high media publicity in Central Texas. Michelle’s years in criminal practice not only gave her extensive trial experience, but it also helped her develop a unique and empathetic approach to communicating with clients in traumatic and highly stressful situations and helping juries and the larger public understand the perspective of her clients. Michelle is a frequent voice in the media, from CNN, the New York Times, the Washington Post and USA Today.  Michelle has spoken nationally on Title IX, #MeToo cases, dealing with the media, jury selection, mitigation evidence, and the meaning of service as a trial lawyer. Michelle was named to The National Trial Lawyers’ Top Trial Lawyers list, and a Top 10 National Trial Lawyer for Women’s Rights. She has also been named to Texas SuperLawyers Rising Star list for 2015-2019.  For the past several years Michelle has also been included in the Texas SuperLawyers Rising Star list “Up and Coming Top 100 Lawyers” and “Up and Coming Top 50 Women Lawyers. Michelle is licensed to practice in Texas and New York.  Michelle serves Of Counsel with the New York/New Jersey based mass tort firm, Seeger Weiss.
