Verdicts / Settlements (Case Results)
- Walker v. Thompson, 214 F.3d 615 (5th Cir. 2000) When three African American ladies told Mr. Mathur that they were systematically racially ridiculed at work at Glasfloss Industries, Inc., Mr. Mathur was immediately infuriated and thought instantly, “At no point do they get away with it.” Mr. Mathur, as a young lawyer, single-handedly took the case against this nationwide manufacturer of air filters and their league of high-priced lawyers. The lawyers initially smelled victory when they argued that the racial epithets that were cast at the victims were insufficient under the law, but their proclivity to celebrate would be short-lived. In response, Mr. Mathur reversed a U.S. District Court’s decision to grant relief to the corporation by taking the case to the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit. Mr. Mathur argued the case before the Court of Appeals. The panel of judges unanimously agreed with Mr. Mathur that enough was enough. A multi-page decision was drafted by the Court to set a standard for what is and what is not a racially hostile work environment. This standard of law still holds today and has been reported and utilized in cases and law treatises across the nation.
- A child suffered life-altering injuries as the result of a motor-vehicle collision in 2022 with an at-fault party. Serving as lead counsel, Mr. Mathur was able to secure a $29,000,000 settlement for the family.
- DC-96-12401 | MONROE DARRELL vs. RIMES WILBUR ET AL. - In his first years of law practice, Mr. Mathur, as lead counsel, represented a former personal manager of country western music star LeAnn Rimes. Mr. Mathur sued on behalf of Darrell Monroe. Mr. Monroe worked for LeAnn as personal manager at the time of her initial rise to fame. Mr. Monroe alleged that he was defrauded during the time he agreed to represent LeAnn. The case was settled under a confidential settlement agreement.
