Mr. McCaskill first worked for the Honorable Justice Tom James on the 5th Court of Appeals in Dallas as a briefing attorney, honing his legal research and writing skills. He then left for private practice and has since secured several seven-figure verdicts for his clients. His high degree of skill has led to recognition from his fellow professionals during his career. A 4-time recipient of Texas Super Lawyers honors, Shawn has also been named to the list of Texas Rising Stars 5 times.  In addition, Mr. McCaskill was named as one of the Best Lawyers in Dallas by D Magazine in 2014 and 2017, and is a fellow of the Dallas Bar Foundation.

Mr. McCaskill has won 4 cases in the Supreme Court of Texas, including most recently in the case of In re Lipsky, No. 13-0928, unanimous opinion issued on April 24, 2015, in a case involving the Texas Citizens Participation Act, also know as the Texas Anti-SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation) Act.

An active participant in a variety of professional organizations, Mr. McCaskill is a member of the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers, the Dallas Bar Association and the State Bar of Texas. He is admitted to practice law before all of the state courts of Texas, the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the 5th and Federal Circuits and the Supreme Court of the United States. Mr. McCaskill is also active in his community and was elected in May 2015 to serve on the City of Southlake City Council until 2018 and appointed as Deputy Mayor Pro Tem in 2016, after previously serving on the Planning and Zoning Commission of the City of Southlake.
