Maxey Scherr

Since 2009, Maxey Scherr has litigated countless jury trials, securing multi-million-dollar verdicts and settlements. In 2022, she founded Scherr Law Firm, PLLC, and, though she practices throughout the United States, she is licensed in Texas, New Mexico, and Illinois. Board Certified in Truck Accident Law by the National Board of Trial Advocacy and in Personal Injury Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, Ms. Scherr has extensive experience in commercial truck crashes, traumatic brain injuries, wrongful death claims, product liability, and the identification of non-obvious third-party defendants. Ms. Scherr earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology, magna cum laude, from the University of Massachusetts Boston, her Juris Doctor from Texas Tech School of Law, and undertook postgraduate studies in Neuroscience at Harvard University. 

Ms. Scherr is currently the President of the Academy of Truck Accident Attorneys (ATAA). She has previously served as Board Secretary, Board Parliamentarian, and Co-Chair of the Women's Caucus. Within the American Association for Justice (AAJ), Ms. Scherr serves on the Trucking Litigation Group Executive Board, co-chairs the Underride Committee, manages the Broker Database, and co-chairs the Trucking Journal. For AAJ's Traumatic Brain Injury Litigation Group, she serves on the Executive Board as Treasurer, having previously acted as the group's legal liaison to the Brain Injury Association of America. In addition, Ms. Scherr is actively involved in the AAJ Women's Caucus. Ms. Scherr sits on the Rules of Evidence Committee for the State Bar of Texas. Widely recognized as an authority in her field, Ms. Scherr frequently presents to fellow attorneys and publishes thought-provoking articles on key issues in trucking litigation and brain injury law. As a committed advocate for heightened trucking safety standards, she dedicates significant effort to supporting brain injury victims and mentoring the next generation of legal professionals. 

In her hometown of El Paso, Ms. Scherr serves as a Downtown Management District Board Member and is a Founding Member of the Women's Rights Commission. In 2023, she launched the Scherr Law Firm Scholarship and Internship Program for local students exploring careers in law. Each summer, her firm also offers a paid clerkship to exceptional law school students. 

As Co-Founder of Sisterhood of the 8, Inc., a woman-led organization of trial attorneys dedicated to breaking barriers and empowering women in the legal profession, Ms. Scherr has been instrumental in numerous initiatives, including the organization's signature "trial jackets" collaboration designed to inspire confidence in the courtroom, its annual rally, and a prestigious scholarship. She also supports a nationwide listserv connecting members and fostering success both inside and outside the courtroom. 

For several years now, Ms. Scherr has held an "AV Preeminent" peer-review rating through Martindale-Hubbell and a "Superb" rating on Avvo. She has also earned the "Super Lawyer" designation and previously received the "Rising Stars" designation. She is a proud member of the Melvin M.
