Ty M. Sheaks is a respected source of insight and information as a frequent speaker, author, and faculty legal advisor to the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM). Whether in the courtroom or negotiating deals he the go to "fixer" for McCathern's most difficult and high-exposure matters. Additionally, Ty leads McCathern's Restaurant & Hospitality Section.
Ty has extensive experience on a national level in a variety of civil and commercial litigation matters. Ty has successfully mediated, arbitrated, and tried numerous cases, including D&O liability claims, construction defect disputes, dram shop liability, premises liability claims, negligent security claims, non-subscription defense, catastrophic personal injury claims, employment disputes, mass tort and products liability claims, medical malpractice claims, collections, and breach of contract actions. Additionally, Ty routinely advises his business partners in a wide range of transactional matters, mergers & acquisitions, business entity formation issues, and corporate governance.
After graduating from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law, Ty returned to Texas and was licensed to practice law in 2003 and is admitted to the United States District Courts of the Northern, Southern, Western and Eastern Districts of Texas. He has been admitted to practice pro hac vice and has litigated in state and federal courts nationwide, including in New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Utah.
Outside of the law, Ty implements McCathern's mission of "Improving People's Lives" by serving as an Advisory Board Member for the Circle Ten Council-Boy Scouts of America as well as serving on several committees for the Dallas Bar Association (DBA). For over ten years Ty volunteered as the assistant boys’ varsity lacrosse coach at Jesuit College Preparatory School. He is also an active member of the National Eagle Scout Association, Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (CLM), Defense Research Institute (DRI), the Risk & Insurance Management Society (RIMS), the Texas Restaurant Association (TRA), and the Greater Dallas Restaurant Association (GDRA).
Ty has presented on a variety of topics at national conferences for the CLM, RIMS as well as presentations for local organizations like the Fort Worth Business Press. As a faculty member of the IAVM, Ty presents the legal block of training annually at its Academy for Venue Safety & Security (AVSS) and Severe Weather Preparedness program (SWP). Additionally, Ty has written several published articles for legal publications, including the Dallas Bar Association’s Headnotes.

- Successful Resolution Of Nationally Publicized Construction Defect Claims On Behalf Of Subcontractor. In the highly publicized construction defect claim involving the multi-million dollar Allen football stadium, McCathern attorneys Paul Grinke and Ty Sheaks were able to successfully resolve potential claims on behalf of one of the subcontractors involved in original construction of the stadium through implementation of a detail-oriented and aggressive defensive strategy, 2015
- Successful Resolution of Civil Wrongful Death Lawsuit On Behalf of Franchisee For National Restaurant Chain Franchisee. Plaintiffs asserted wrongful death, negligence and gross negligence claims against franchisee for national restaurant chain as well as the national restaurant chain itself for the tragic murder of their adult-son during a delivery as a driver for the franchisee. McCathern attorneys, Carl Evans and Ty Sheaks assisted the District Attorney’s Office during the criminal investigation and murder trial of the alleged attackers, which resulted in conviction and life imprisonment of the alleged shooter. - Successful Resolution of Construction Related Wrongful Death Civil Lawsuit. Plaintiffs asserted wrongful death, negligence and gross negligence claims against the engineering firm responsible for design of a water treatment system when a tragic accident happened during construction that resulted in the unfortunate death of a worker on the project. After implementing an aggressive yet common-sense approach to defending the claims asserted by Plaintiffs, McCathern’s attorneys, Paul Grinke and Ty Sheaks, were able to successfully dispose of Plaintiffs’ claims for punitive damages through an appropriate summary judgment motion while at the same time asserting third-party claims against the decedent’s employer and successfully fending off summary judgment motions by the employer.
